Update

Once again I'm very busy - baby quilt on the edge of finished and I started a new class with Jane LaFazio "Sketching and Watercolor in a Mixed Media Journal". I just love it. Here are some arrangements from our previous lessons.

 This way it doesn't really matter much that the weather is still cold and very unsetteled as long as I have paper, pencil, PIT Artist pen and my waterbrush (quite an invention!!).

Slowly heading for Christmas

Winter so far is jus ugly - grey, rainy and disgusting. BUT the right weather to quilt (love the new Bernina 550 QE that is an advanced birthday present I can already use :-) and to do more watercolor sketches. Only one lesson left - I'll have to wait until February 6 to continue with the next class.
The baby quilt is progressing and looks good so far.
So here are  more shoes and one kind of mixed media piece - a sketch with stitching added, some straight stitches and algerian eyelets. When I did that lily I should have turned the paper to the portrait version instead of landscape plus the black and white border didn't really fit. But after revisiting it and giving it a new look I can live with it.

Back to quilt-related topic - here are two of my recycled circles that I made after watching Jane LaFazio's video. Lots of TAST stitches, too.

Here's what I did since that savoy cabbage leaf - besides the quilt that's progressing. Doing water colour sketches turned out to be really addictive and this class is just great. I think I'll enroll for the next one that starts some time in January 2015.

I'm back

Time definitely goes fast - more than a year since I last posted. It was a good one regardless the ups and downs. Reading, gardening, some experimental quilting and embroidering, started an Art Journal after stumbling over Julie Fei-Fan Balzer in the internet and at the moment I'm doing an online class with Jane LaFazio "Sketching and Watercolor: Journal Style" and having endless fun with it.
Who would have thought that the leaf of a savoy cabbage is such a beauty!  Here are two of the pieces I made:

The next is a mixed media piece - I added stitching and metal eyelets. I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

More soon - there's a baby quilt I have to take time for.

Wonderful Weekend

Wow, I'm still exhausted. I think I didn't do that much talking in the last years than I did since Saturday evening. The people that came to my show were so interested in how these quilts were made and how I get my ideas that I was simply stunned.
So here are the pictures of my "oeuvres"  on the wall. The picture was taken without audience so the quilts can be seen. Larger pictures are over at http://brighidsquilts.blogspot.de/
This was the first time I had the chance to show my quilts publicly and I'm overwhelmed. I even have the chance to show them here in my home village in a surrounding of old roman ruines plus an option of going to a small town in Alsace. And (which is very flattering) I got the request of doing another fabric portrait. Now I'm waiting for a picture. What a year!

Almost there ....

Really, I wouldn't have imagined that showing my quilts one week from now would cause so much stress for me! Part of the time I feel that they are not good enough to be shown to the "world" and but then I'm too proud of having done them ... Anyway it's not a juried  show and I can relax about it, having some amount of small items to sell and just in case they are gone before the show ends I still could promise to do some more on commission. So no reason to get nervous - it's just the fact that my quilts stayed in my bedroom for so long and were just mine :-)
While going through my work I found one that was started some years ago but never finished. I looked at it with different eyes and started to complete it. Here it is - "The missing link" . Don't ask me where that name popped out, it's just that I couldn't name it any other way.

I'll add some closeups later. Now I'll have to think about what goes where and how to place the small quilts I've done in a pleasing way.
There was some work in my garden, too. The weed took over and I had quite a hard time to get through but now my flowers bloomed, tomatoes are red, beans ripe and potatoes just fine. Looking at it all it's just a very successful year!
I'll post some pictures from the show when it's done.

Need some time management

I had to take a short break from "producing" balls and biscornues for my March CQJP block:

There's a delay in my TAST stitching though I used some in my blocks. But number 58 looked so cute so I had to try adding leaves around the spirals.
Last weekend started a new class at Quilt University with Elizabeth Barton "Working in Series"
and I have to do my homework. Plus I'm working on a baby quilt for my partner's daughter. So I'm more than busy ....
